At Capital Rides Initiative, we understand the joy that comes from owning a recreational vehicle. Many of our donors in Harrisburg have enjoyed memorable road trips and family gatherings in their RVs. However, life circumstances change, and these vehicles often sit unused. By donating your RV or motorhome, you can turn that idle vehicle into a valuable resource for community programs, helping those in need while receiving tax benefits at the same time.
Donors typically include families, retirees, and adventure enthusiasts who have decided to downsize or upgrade their recreational vehicles. Whether it’s a Class A Fleetwood or a cozy pop-up camper, each donation contributes to our mission of making local transportation accessible. Your RV’s new journey starts here, and together, we can create positive change in Harrisburg.

How pickup works
Pickup for your RV or motorhome is coordinated to ensure a smooth process. Our team utilizes specialized RV-transport flatbeds or drive-away services to handle the logistics. If your vehicle is parked at a storage lot, we’ll coordinate with the facility to arrange pickup at your convenience. Keep in mind that vehicle length and height are important factors, as most states have a maximum clearance of 13'6”. Our team will work closely with you and any RV park or storage facility, ensuring minimal hassle during the donation process.
What drives donation value
The donation value of your recreational vehicle is influenced by several key factors. The condition of house systems, such as the roof, slides, plumbing, and air conditioning units, generally drives value more than the engine's performance. It’s essential to be aware that water damage can significantly reduce your RV’s worth. Additionally, providing recent maintenance records can help demonstrate the care your vehicle has received, leading to a better appraisal. Seasonal factors matter too; spring auctions tend to yield the highest values. For classic RVs, we recommend obtaining an appraisal from a qualified appraiser to ensure you maximize your donation value while adhering to IRS regulations.
Documentation you need
- Clear title or bill of sale
- Maintenance and service records
- IRS Form 8283 Section B for appraisals

Harrisburg specifics
In Pennsylvania, particularly Harrisburg, RV donations must comply with DMV regulations for titling and registration. The state allows for both titled and bill-of-sale vehicles, but having a clear title simplifies the donation process. Understanding these local nuances will ensure your donation proceeds smoothly. Partnering with Capital Rides Initiative means you can feel confident about following Pennsylvania's legal requirements and contributing to a worthy cause.
